This gallery provides a fascinating insight into one of the aquatic world's most important and fragile environments.

As well as being a nursery for many fish species this habitat also provides a rich hunting ground for a huge variety of predators.

With the sharp shooting archer fish this is a dangerous realm but it is also home to some of the planet's most unusual creatures including mudskipper fish that can live out of water and bizarre four-eyed fish!
